Material required:

Glass cleaner: It is used to remove extra dirt from window glass.

Microfiber cloth: It is used to remove solution from glass.

Window repair kit: It contains all the things required for repairing.

  • Epoxy resins
  • Syringe
  • Pedestal
  • Razor blade

Buy a repair kit according to your crack or chip size, and make sure to check the expiration date of epoxy. Because if it’s expired, it won’t provide proper adhesion.

Detailed process of window glass repair:

1. Clean the glass:

First of all, clean the extra dirt and debris from the window. Put a small amount of glass cleaner on soft microfiber cloths for proper cleaning. Be aware of the cracked edges; it can do harm to your hands. Dry the window completely before starting the next step.

2. Adhere to the sicky patch:

Remove one side of the sticky patch to attach it over the affected surface. This patch has a circular cutout; your chip size should not be greater than that. Some of the repairing kits have pedestals that help to apply resin easily. After aligning the tabs, press the pedestal down onto the patch.

3. Apply the resins:

  • Most resins are mixed or can be mixed during their usage. But sometimes it requires to be blended before its application. Read its manual instructions carefully for this guidance.
  • Fill the resin into the pedestal and use a syringe to compress it tightly. When your syringe is properly compressed, then pull the syringe plunger back while holding the pedestal firmly.
  • Don’t remove the pedestal until the syringe plunger is fully raised. Some syringes have clips that prevent the accidental removal of the syringe from the pedestal.
  • A vacuum created in the syringe while raising the plunger is not strong enough to pull up the resin but helps the air bubbles to evade from the cracked glass.
  • Observing the emerging of air bubbles from the opposite side of the glass. Don’t remove the syringe until you see the air bubbles drawing out of the resin. It can happen within ten minutes.
  • Now again push down the syringe plunger to drive the remaining resins into the affected area after ensuring that no air bubbles have left.
  •  You can push the syringe hardly to the half way down of the pedestal. Knock out the window glass cautiously and compress the syringe again.

4. Remove pedestal and syringe:

Give the resin a proper time to cure as mentioned in its manual. Then remove the syringe and pedestal. Sometimes you’ve got to put an extra drop on the top of the cracked glass to make sure that there is no dent or damage during this application.

5. Use curing strip:

Place the curing strip over the repaired area for some time, as per manual instruction. It helps to remove extra air bubbles.

6. Remove extra resins:

Remove the extra resins from the window by scraping the repaired area with razor blades. Use these razors cautiously to have clean and flawless window glass.

Preventive measures to protect a car’s window glass from cracks:

  • Wash your car’s window glass every time you wash your car at home to maintain its fresh look and prevent it from deteriorating with time.
  • Regularly check the cracks and scratches; never ignore any crack because it can lead to severe damages in the future.
  • Apply the protection layers, such as the paint protection layer and nano ceramic coating, to protect it from various external factors that cause potential damages and reduce its longevity.
  • Park your car in a shade when possible because high temperatures have the property to expand the glass, and then a quick change in temperature can lead to the cracks in the glass.
  • Close your door carefully; avoid slamming; it can reduce your car’s structural integrity.
  • Car window tinting also provides your window’s glass with a protective shield that protects it from shattering when impacted.

Conclusion:

You can repair your window glass with small cracks and chips by following these steps. But if your glass has larger cracks, then you need to consult a professional for the best repair and replacement, if needed.
